IS THIS IT?

Growing up, do you remember answering this one question over and over again at school and family functions?

“So, what do you want to do when you finish school?”

B-1

Some of us knew, some of us kind of knew and some of us had absolutely no idea. We felt immense pressure to answer that question so finitely and eloquently when, to be completely honest, sometimes all we really wanted to say was, “I don’t even know what I feel like doing tomorrow.”

It was hard enough when we were younger. But what about now? We’re in our 20’s, 30’s, 40’s — even 50’s — and if we’re completely honest with ourselves, we still don’t really know what we want to be when we grow up.

But here we are.

Grown up.

What do I want to be?

Maybe the reason why this question is the source of so much friction is because it’s the wrong question.
Instead of asking, ‘What do I want to be when I grow up?’ perhaps we should be asking, who do I want to be when I grow up?’

Yes. That sounds better. That feels better.

I want to be giving.

I want to be present.

I want to be creative.

I want to be expressive.

I want to be passionate.

I want to be inspiring.

BK01

Doesn’t that just immediately feel oh, so expansive?

Once you’ve honed in on how you want to feel in your life and the kind of person you want to be, it’s time to step up your courage-meter and take action.

Ask yourself:

“What can I do today that will allow me to feel creative, to feel expressive, to feel giving, to feel passionate?”

BK10

It doesn’t have to be big and it doesn’t have to be bold — it just has to be in alignment with the vision that you have for yourself.

Above all else, please be gentle with yourself and don’t feel like you need to have the next 10 years figured out. When we’re courageous enough to follow our hearts everyday and trust that everything will unfold as it’s meant to, miracles happen. We devote ourselves with more presence and ease. We allow passion to trump fear.

If we do this day after day, before we know it, we’re living a life that is in utter alignment with the person that we truly are. And when our authenticity radiates, we give others permission to do the same.

B-10

Purpose is never found in a bold declaration. It’s found in an accumulation of tiny choices made by you, for you. Being of service to yourself on this level allows you to be of service to others.

And that right there, is an astonishing way to live your one, precious life.

What a lovely read. I love the feeling of allowing ourselves to be “expansive”. The more I get in the space the more the possibilities seem to unfold. Thanks for the beautifully written reminder Fontaine. x x

This is so perfect and well timed for me. I always worry about not knowing what I want to do and feeling that my life is slipping away while I work it out! I love this way of looking at things. Thank you so much Fontaine, such a beautiful read. xoxo
