AN INTERVIEW WITH NAT KRINGOUDIS

She is addressing the infertility epidemic and educating women to take the lead on their reproductive health. Doctor of Chinese Medicine, Author and Speaker, Nat Kringoudis is featured in today’s guru interview. You might be more than surprised that she didn’t choose her line of work – instead, it chose her. From professional resistance and witch doctor remarks to the hard work behind the glitz and glamour, and the sage advice she would gift to her 18 year-old self, Nat, as just puts it, “makes women’s hormones happier than a Pharrell William’s hit!”

The best part of my job is…

I get to help women understand and take charge of their hormone health every day! It’s super rewarding. I like to say, “I make women’s hormones happier than a Pharrell William’s hit!”

I chose to enter this field of work because…

I actually didn’t – it chose me. I had an influx of women coming into my clinic wanting fertility support and it grew from there to what it is today. Although I like to think we have broadened things a little to reach out to all women, especially young women who are facing challenges to do with their reproductive systems – fixing it before it is really broken is a game changer. Helping women to understand their health even more so.

The greatest challenge in my career has been…

Early on there was a lot of resistance from health professionals and patients – we’re (collectively) often approaching health from a fear based perspective, which only fuels the issue more. People would ask what I do for work and I’d certainly get weird looks as if I was some type of witch doctor. Thankfully times have changed and capturing the attention and support some of Australia’s top gynaecologists, obstetricians, GP’s and health professionals, and getting them on team NK has been so wonderful for both patients and myself. Bridging the gap is an absolute must. If our health professionals don’t understand our needs, we can find ourselves on medications we don’t necessarily wish to be on (because they don’t actually treat the root of the issue), or approaching our health from a place that is about treating symptoms only, which never works long term. Finding the right team of people to support your health makes the world of difference.

The funniest misconceptions about my industry/company/brand are….

It’s all glitz and glamour! With speaking opportunities and appearances, social media and establishing a profile in the industry, it can at times look more than amazing and don’t get me wrong – it can be all of this and more! But there is far more hard work in-between than what is seen publicly. I of course wouldn’t change it for the world.

The most influential person in my career has been…

My mum. She’s a raging health fan and my illnesses as a child led her on a path of discovery and realisation. She absolutely led by example and wholeheartedly inspired me to do what I do today.

I’m also mad about Rachel Zoe as a business woman extraordinaire and empire creator. I find her so very inspirational.

If I could give one piece of advice to my 18-year-old self, it would be….

Diets don’t work. I did all of that, dieting, yo-yoing and more. And they don’t work. When we can live life to the fullest, everything else, including weight, falls into place.

I’d also gift myself the knowledge I share with my audience that is, ‘nothing is permanent and once you can understand your body, you will know exactly what to do to keep it thriving’.

My greatest achievement has been…

Finding and falling in love with my husband and being blessed with two beautiful children. That is my greatest achievement to date.

My clinic, The Pagoda Tree also keeps me pretty proud, oh and being a published author and educating is a great honour.

The greatest personal challenge I have over come is…

Constantly tuning into my gut. I’m more intuitive than I’d like to admit. Listening to that inner voice when you don’t like what it has to say is super hard!

I don’t understand why…

There isn’t more kindness

I try to relax by…

Breathing and reading

My biggest fear is…

Honestly, fear is a gift – I avoid fixating on it

I can’t live without…

Warm drinks

I really wish I had…

A never-ending supply of lemons. There are never enough…

The greatest lesson I have learnt is….

We have a choice and its up to us to create our own lives, nobody else.

If I had one super power, it would be….

I want a photographic memory. My memory is not all that!

If I could invite four people to a dinner party, they’d be…

Rachel Zoe, Dr Sadeghi, Lionel Richie and Pam Grout.
