We are thrilled and privileged to have the wonderful Julie Parker, Founder of Beautiful You Coaching Academy, in our hot seat today. Julie entered the coaching world with big ideas and a heart filled with passion and opportunity. And what an impact she has had.
Julie is also a published author and TEDx speaker and has shared a speaking stage with Clare Bowditch, Christina Re, Gretel Killeen, Carolyn Cresswell and Gala Darling. With such an inspiring journey, we couldn’t wait to sit down with Julie and hear what really makes her tick.
…seeing people achieve things that once they only ever dreamed of – and often didn’t even dare to hope would come true. To witness that in someone else is so amazing. I never ever get tired of it. And I highly doubt I ever will!
I absolutely love training heart-centred people who love helping others learn to value their gifts and build a thriving business as a life coach. It’s my calling and purpose in life and I am so grateful that I get to live that out every day. Our course attracts the most beautiful, talented, giving and feelings-driven people. Yes – I am biased! And the fact that I get to be around them as part of my work and business feels incredible.
…I love people. Truly love them.
While I enjoy my alone and quiet time as much as others do, I gain so much energy, clarity and connection from being around others. I particularly love it when I get a chance to engage in really soulful and purposeful conversations with people, which is why I was so attracted to start my career as a counsellor and then move into coaching. To now be able to help people become life coaches through learning how to have those inspiring and meaningful conversations with others is incredible.
And the fact that I know I am living proof of getting paid for doing something you are passionate about and love makes me know deep in my heart that it’s something that is possible for everyone else too.
…learning to understand that I cannot be just a coach and life coach trainer but that I must be a businesswoman as well. I truly didn’t realise how much it would be when I started my own business, but so much of my time is spent doing things like marketing, social media, writing newsletters and blog posts and managing accounts. I am very blessed to have a number of people help me with these things now but for many years I did them all on my own.
At first I felt very resentful of it and felt that it was taking me away from my ‘real love’ of coaching but over time I have learned that in fact all of those things consistently bring me closer to being able to do more of what I want. And that’s a very good thing!
…firstly that to be a great life coach you have to have a ‘perfect’ life or be as near ‘perfect’ a person as you can possibly be. This is so not the case at all and also – it’s actually a deterrent for many people who are deciding to work with a coach.
People don’t want to work with someone to help them with their career or self-confidence or relationships if they are putting up a veneer of being flawless and untouchable. They want someone who is real, authentic and genuine. And of course we know that when people are those things they have failings, make mistakes and are just as ‘human’ as the next person. It’s within these areas of our lives that so often our greatest teachings and character development comes.
And I think the largest misconception regarding the brand of the Beautiful You Coaching Academy is that because it is soft, feminine and warm that somehow means we are not outstandingly skilled at business, systems, structure, and innovative thinking that creates incredible abundance. We are. And we want every life coach who trains with us to know that having great coaching skills is the first and most important thing you must develop, but that being a strong, connected and focussed business person is so key as well to building the brand and business you really deserve.
In other words…don’t let the pink fool you! We run a super successful business – something we never take for granted on any given day.
Due to a debilitating illness she had to leave school when she was 14. Despite this she is the most emotionally intelligent and kind person I have ever met. And I’ve been blessed to meet some pretty amazing people.
My passion for people, serving others and giving comes from her and if it was not for the way I have seen her conduct her life with such grace and love, I highly doubt that I ever would have learned that serving other people is the greatest privilege any person can ever have in life.
…believe in yourself more.
You’ve totally got this and you don’t need to worry so much about what you look like or what others think. Those things are only distractions to what you’re really meant to do. So stop wasting time and get on with what you know you really want to do!
…establishing a thriving business built on self-love, service and helping others.
…the sudden ending of a very significant relationship, one that I believed would result in marriage and a family. I was heartbroken and found myself experiencing feelings of depression and loss that I had never experienced before. It was a very humbling time for me and one that at various points I honestly felt like I might not fully come back from.
But I did, and it ended up being one of the great learning periods of my life and one that made me truly focus more on myself and my own self-love and less on the love I craved at the time from others.
…people sell to others in an inauthentic way. When we lift others up and encourage them we speak straight to their heart and there’s nothing more powerful than that.
…reading a great magazine, preferably with a cat in my lap!
…not doing enough with my life. I’m acutely aware that I only get one shot. Just like all of us.
…a sense of purpose, raspberries, music, love and my cats, husband and step-daughter.
…a great singing voice. I love to sing and can carry a tune but would really love to be able to belt one out!
…when you let love guide your decisions everything that is meant to be yours – in experience, wealth, knowledge, relationships and more – will be.
…the ability to fly. If it could get me to Paris or New York in land speed record time that would be even better!
…Jonathan Fields, Oprah Winfrey, Hugh Jackman and my husband Glenn. I just couldn’t experience such amazing people without him with me.
