It’s not just you, even if you think it is. Everyone’s confidence waxes and wanes depending on the day, depending on the circumstance. You’re human and you feel A LOT, which means your confidence will sometimes soar among the clouds and other times, you have to look for it because it’s playing hide and seek.
Your confidence is a mindset. It takes consistent effort to build and maintain each and every day. It’s not something you are born with and just have for the rest of your life. It’s a way of being that you choose to live by and with.
In fact, your confidence is just another way of exploring your relationship with you.
Here are our three simple steps to help you put to practice building your confidence on a daily basis:
Positive energy leads to positive outcomes.
You’ve probably realised just how powerful your mind is.
That running dialogue is something you can choose to participate in or choose to honour and let go.
When the negative self-talk piques its head and makes you feel less than confident, smile and acknowledge the thought and make the choice to not buy into its game.
Smile, laugh and surround yourself with happy, positive people.
You may like to keep a gratitude journal to remind yourself of the highs of your day and your accomplishments.
Watch on as you develop more peace and confidence when you are in a grateful state of mind.
It’s a little contagious once you get started!
Watch a video or podcast of your favourite speaker. Listen to how they hold themselves through their language.
Notice how there are probably minimal ums and ahs.
Notice the lightness in their voice.
Notice the passion as they speak about a particular topic that means so much to them.
Notice how their confidence is reflected by their assertiveness.
Now as you go about your day, through your interactions with family, friends and work colleagues, try and speak with similar assertiveness.
Observe the words you use and how you use them.
Notice how people listen to you more attentively when they see the leader radiate from within you.
Embody what it feels to be confident, even if you actually don’t right this moment.
Shut down your eyes, let your shoulder blades melt down your back, stand tall and feel the energy rising from your crown towards the sky.
Place one hand on your belly and the other on your heart.
Take five deep inhales and exhales, and let the sensation of confidence flood over you.
Now see what it is you want to do or achieve with the confidence by your side.
Visualise yourself making the phone call, stepping onto the stage, writing that email or running those stairs.
Visualise yourself taking action with full confidence in you. Feel the happiness and sense of accomplishment you will feel, and then, go act the part!
